ABOUT SAN DIEGO CRICKET CLUB

Today, SDCC has grown in stature and prominence.  It is still a dominant Club in Southern California Cricket Association.  Each year, SDCC sends two teams to compete in SCCA. SDCC's Division 1 and 2 are almost always in the top 6.

Out of caution, SDCC created a recreational Club, Vintage, to engage older parents with the intention that they would bring their children to play and continue to grow the tradition.  Instead, Vintage became a powerhouse in the local T-20 recreational league that is sponsored by San Diego Cricket Association (SDCA).

The aspiration to build a youth base grew to become San Diego Cricket Club Youth Academy.  After several successful youth programs with the Rancho YMCA, SDCC embraced the responsibility to form SDCCYA.  Today, SDCCYA is a vibrant youth program with over 50 members.

In 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, SDCC's success over the years resulted in the receipt of a Minor League Cricket Team.  With roots in SDCC, the San Diego Surf Riders will compete in Minor League Cricket with full intentions to become a Major League Cricket Team.

History

San Diego Cricket Club was founded in 1990, although some would argue that it was 1989.  SDCC began its journey at the University of California with a group of faculty.

The club offered a strong and dominant team in the mid-1990s and remained one of Southern California's best clubs.

From inception, SDCC took pride in its multi-cultural composition, with members from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies.

Over the years, SDCC boasts among its playing squads former international stars such as Raj Ghai, Joseph Guiste, John Morton, Hopeton Barrett, and Reginald Benjamin.

From its modest beginnings on UCSD's campus, it is now a vibrant organization with a very ambitious strategy that includes a robust cricket eco-system in San Diego.

It relocated in 2008 to Canynside Park in Rancho Penasquitos.

Over its history, SDCC benefitted from many volunteers who spearheaded the organization into a community icon.
